What should I do if I suspect my child is having speech or language difficulties?

If you are concerned that your child or loved one has a speech and language delay or disorder, contact one of our speech language pathologists to schedule an evaluation as soon as possible. Our goal is to get every patient to a level of functioning that is suitable to meet his or her individual needs.

How long before I see measurable improvement?

A speech and language disorder can take anywhere from a few months to a few years to remediate. Some delays and disorders are life long and can affect many aspects of daily living.   Early and intensive intervention is the key to remediation.

Is a doctor's referral required?

No.  Often times parents will have concerns that can be brought directly to us.  Also, individuals who have suffered a TBI or stroke will know they need help getting back to their pre-injury selves.  Our SLPs are fully licensed and qualified to test and report on any needed therapy.  However, often times our clients who take advantage of their insurance benefits may have to have a physician's referral for testing and therapy.

My child receives therapy at school. Should I still get outside professional help?

This depends upon many factors.  The therapy your child receives at school is also performed by a fully licensed SLP who is equally qualified as our staff.  In fact, our staff have a combined 20 years of experience as SLPs for CyFair ISD.  However, most in school therapy is done in a group setting with distractions and/or with less frequency.  Additionally, the threshold for providing services at school are much higher than a private one-on-one setting.  SpeechMonster can complement and accelerate the results of the therapy they receive at school by talking with and coordinating with their school professional.
